The Westport Weston Family Y is in danger.
The Family Y must move to a new facility at its Mahackeno campsite. If it doesn’t, it will be forced to close its doors.
The Y sold its Post Road Building at the end of 2006. Some people in town claim this was a political stunt. It wasn’t. The Y simply cannot afford to operate the 85-year-old building.
Now, after the Family Y received a series of approvals, a tiny group of people is trying to prevent the Family Y from creating a new center on land that it has owned since 1942.
If these naysayers succeed, the Y could go out of business by 2010 and all of Westport will lose.
