Dear Mr. and Mrs. Carnahan, thank you for saying what I wish I had said in your lovely letter on behalf of the Westport Weston Family Y, which appeared in the Westport News on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

You were eloquent.

I think all of us in Westport are somewhat inured to the acrimonious verbal and written carnage that results as anyone -- or any organization -- attempts to do just about anything in Westport buy Longshore, build a new school, save an historic house from the wrecker's ball, build a playground for the kids at Compo Beach or relocate and build a new library, all of which, over the years and over the objections of many, eventually came to fruition.

I live in the Old Hill section of Westport, so I had already received a copy of the anti-Y document you mentioned in your letter. I agree the new Y should be built at Mahackeno, and soon.
